Women overtaking men in setting up new businesses
Women in Britain are more active in setting up their businesses than men. A new research done by Barclays showed the data from three regions across the country; that data showed that the growth in business is going on and women are taking up more new businesses than men.
London (e-business-loans) October 26, 2006: The latest business research done by Barclays revealed that all over Europe, women are more active in setting up their businesses than men. Women started 38,100 businesses in the first six months of this year i.e., nine per cent more as compared to the last year data. Particularly, the growth in three regions of the country namely, East Midlands, London and Yorkshire have overtaken by women than that of men.
The data revealed that the growth in businesses in the East Midlands was 8 per cent by men as compared to 11 per cent by women; Yorkshire, its 16 per cent for men and 23 per cent for women and for London, its 10 per cent for men and 16 per cent for women. And, in the regions of East and Wales the growth rate was same by both sexes in the first six months of 2006.
Marketing director for Barclays Local business, Mr John Davis said, "Start-ups remain buoyant this year and it's clear that in many areas women are taking the lead and demonstrating how much they can contribute towards the business sector and the UK economy as a whole."
He further added, "Business start ups such as property services, which include interior design and property development, offer increasing flexibility and are proving very popular with women who are often juggling careers and family commitments. Also in the 21st century there are a lot fewer barriers to entry for women and they are taking advantage. I am sure in a few years time, that in some areas of the market, more businesses will be started by women than men."
