London, Monday April 17, 2006: The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has submitted its response to the Government's energy review consultation on future energy policy. The consultation focuses on number of options for supplying the country with energy over the next 30 years.
The response by FSB reflects the significance of this crucial issue concerning small businesses. The rising cost of energy is adversely affecting the competitiveness and profitability of the small businesses.
John Holbrow, FSB National Environment Chairman said that the FSB was concerned that the debate so far has focused on large users of energy and domestic users. He called on the Government, as it examines ways to create energy for the next 30 years, to remember that this task will be much easier if it provides advice for small firms on how to use energy more efficiently.
He further added that energy efficiency through energy management is critical in terms of easing costs for small firms and these firms need information and advice to manage their energy use.
Expert Opinion: The small businesses need to be made aware of energy saving technologies otherwise their competitiveness and profitability is likely to suffer. The FSB has taken note of this key issue and accordingly submitted its response to the Government.
